About TrueFit BMI

Built to give athletes and active adults a fuller, more transparent picture of body composition than BMI alone.

Our Core Purpose

Official Mission & Scope

TrueFitBMI was created as an educational body-composition tool for athletes, strength trainees, and active individuals who may find traditional BMI alone provides incomplete context. Our calculator combines the standard BMI formula with waist-to-height ratio screening and the U.S. Army's publicly available body composition standard.

For almost two centuries, public health systems have evaluated human mass using the Quetelet Index (Body Mass Index). BMI is a useful population-level screening tool, but it can't tell muscle from fat. A competitive athlete or dedicated strength trainer can be labeled "overweight" or even in the "obesity" range, which can cause unnecessary worry.

TrueFit BMI helps fill that gap. By pairing BMI with the Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHtR), the same measure the U.S. Army adopted in 2026, we give you more context than BMI alone, especially if you carry a lot of muscle.

Who Created TrueFit BMI?

Technology & Engineering Studio

Produced by Sovrnce Tech

TrueFit BMI is an independent digital health product conceived, engineered, and maintained by Sovrnce Tech (sovrnce.tech). Sovrnce Tech is a technology company focused on designing intelligent systems, modern software architectures, and automated infrastructure for wellness operators, clinicians, and fitness platforms.

Recognizing that existing web-based fitness calculators were either cluttered with intrusive advertisements, bogged down by slow server round-trips, or locked into obsolete single-metric formulas, Sovrnce Tech built TrueFit BMI as a dedicated showcase of modern, privacy-first wellness technology.

Meet the Founder

Sovrnce Tech was founded by Osa Obaseki, an IT strategist and systems architect with more than 10 years of experience in software development, automation, and digital operations. Osa's background in systems engineering and process automation shapes how TrueFit BMI is built: fast calculators that run on your own device, formulas tested against worked examples, and pages kept current as official standards change.

Osa is not a clinician. TrueFit BMI doesn't offer medical opinions of its own. Instead, every guide and calculator is checked against the peer-reviewed research, public-health guidance, and official military directives it cites, and updated when those sources change. Questions or corrections go straight to Osa through the contact section below.

As a Sovrnce Tech product, TrueFit BMI is built around a few core principles:

  • Zero Data Harvesting: Your measurements (height, weight, waist circumference) are processed entirely on your local device using client-side JavaScript. Your measurements are not sent to our servers or stored in a database.
  • Fast and Responsive: Results update instantly as you adjust the sliders or buttons, with no page reloads.
  • Clean User Experience: If we show ads, we keep them away from the calculator controls and avoid intrusive formats and dark patterns.

The Three Pillars of Our Methodology

TrueFit BMI brings together three established, evidence-based measures:

📏

1. Body Mass Index (BMI)

The standard BMI formula (kg/m²) and adult categories used by the World Health Organization (WHO) and CDC, as a baseline for weight relative to height.

⚖️

2. Waist-to-Height Ratio

Dr. Margaret Ashwell's guideline to "keep your waist to less than half your height." Waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) is a simple screening measure of central fat and related cardiometabolic risk.

🎖️

3. The U.S. Army Standard

Based on the U.S. Army's July 2026 update (Army Directive 2026-13), which made a waist-to-height ratio below 0.55 its sole body composition standard. TrueFit BMI is not affiliated with the Army and is not an official assessment.

A Commitment to Evidence-Based Transparency

Our methodology and educational content draw from peer-reviewed research, public-health guidance, and official government sources, which we cite on each page. We review our guides when standards change and update the date on each page when we do.

Editorial Independence & Clinical Disclaimers

TrueFit BMI is operated as an educational and informational resource. We do not sell proprietary dietary supplements, promote rapid weight-loss drugs, or provide medical diagnoses.

Our calculator adds useful context beyond the bathroom scale, but it cannot replace an in-person medical exam, blood tests, or personalized advice from a licensed healthcare provider. TrueFit BMI is intended for adults aged 20 and older.
